Thoughts Before My Internship:
It is very rare that you can get all your top interests into one internship! Well, I did it. Phycology, naturopathic medicine, women's health, midwifery, business, and medicine all in one! This internship hits the spot for interests. I am excited about learning more in depth the positive aspects of natural at home births vs. hospital births, and experiencing the daily life of a midwife! I am nervous to see how interested I actually am in midwifery after I intern for these three weeks. I would hate for something I think I am so passionate about to be something maybe I am not so passionate about! Either way I hope to look at it as a positive experience and as a way to either narrow down interests or continue my passion! I will be reading Ina Mays Guide to Birth, along with watching a documentary on natural births as resources to prepare me for my internship! For my project, I hope to share with the community the importance of natural births compared to hospital births and inform women and families on why it is a good option.

My LINK internship took place at Joy of Life Family Medicine. Joy of life is a local bossiness that supports home and natural births and provides naturopathic healing to those in need. Joy of Life supports and cares for each individuals whole self. I interned with Joy and Beka, (two midwifes.) Joy and Beka are experienced midwifes and specialize in natural at home births. They play the role of helping women give birth in a natural holistic way in a place where comfort and low stress levels are present. (Home.) Home births have become more popular and women and families are starting to see the benefits of natural birthing, there for Joy of Life family Medicine plays a huge role in women's lives. Throughout my internship I explored the meaningful purpose of natural birthing compared to hospital births. I observed midwife and patient interactions, along with taking part of home visits and client interaction. I worked daily on a project for Joy and Beka through ManaStats. ManaStats is a website that gathers information about pregnancy and births for individual clients and creates statistics based on the info. On the daily I was going through clients charts that had every piece of information from the time they got pregnant to the time the infant was born. I individually entered the information for each client I had a chart for. My internship helped me see the reality of owning and running a small business and the negative and positive aspects that come with it.
